What is the Ms PAC Attack tournament?
Imagine if Ms Pacman was a race, and that's Ms PAC Attack! Up to 4 players at a time compete simultaneously in a timed 7-minute game of Ms Pacman (the fast version). The Pittsburgh Arcade Collective (PAC) established and trademarked the tournament in 2024, and held the first official Ms PAC Attack tournament at the 2024 Pittsburgh Gaming Expo.
REGISTRATION (1pm - 4pm):
Registration fee is $10 per player (cash, PayPal, or Venmo accepted), no refunds. Players can register in person on Saturday, October 4th from 1pm - 4pm at the registration area near the Ms PAC Attack games; registered players will receive a tournament entry badge and 3 qualifying game tickets. Each ticket is good for 1 qualifying game/score attempt. Additional qualifying game tickets can be purchased for $3 per ticket, or $5 for 2 tickets. Registration and ticket sales end promptly at 4pm so that all registered players have time to play their remaining qualifying rounds. Qualifying games tickets must be used before 5:00pm or they are void. Registration fee and unused qualifying game tickets are non-refundable.
QUALIFYING (1pm - 5pm):
Ms PAC Attack uses a “Best Game” open qualifying format, which will take place from 1pm-5pm on Saturday, June 28. Registered players can play as many or as few qualifying games as they like* during the open qualifying timeframe. For each qualifying game, the player will play a 7-minute timed game, and their score will be recorded. Only a player’s best/highest score will count toward finals.
FINALS (A-Division, 5pm - 6pm):
The top 8 players from open qualifying will compete in a single elimination playoff bracket beginning at 5pm to determine the tournament champion. Up to 4 of the A-Division players at a time will compete head-to-head simultaneously in a 7-minute timed round, and the player with the lowest score is eliminated. Play-offs will continue in this fashion until only one player remains. The last player standing is the champion and receives a trophy and cash prize; runner-up receives a lesser cash prize.
FINALS (B-Division, 6pm-7pm):
All registered players (except those who qualified for A-Division), who played at least one open qualifying game, will compete in a group elimination playoff bracket beginning at 6pm. Up to 4 players at a time will compete head-to-head simultaneously in 7-minute timed rounds, and the two lowest scoring players are eliminated. Play-offs will continue in this fashion until only one player remains. The last player standing is the champion and receives a cash prize.
